When should stabilization go in?

As soon as the final grade is done. Ground left open through a rain cycle is where the cost comes from, and re-grading a washed slope costs far more than seeding it on time.

How long until the ground is holding?

Germination typically starts in one to three weeks depending on temperature and water; meaningful root hold takes a full growing season. If you need protection before then, that's what blankets and temporary measures are for.

What time of year can you do this?

Accepted Answer

Spring and early fall are ideal. Summer works if there's water. Deep winter is not seeding weather. If your grade finishes in December, we'll talk about temporary protection now and permanent cover in spring, rather than taking your money for seed that won't take.

Is hydroseeding cheaper than sod?

Considerably, and the gap grows with the area. Sod's advantage is that it's instant — if you need cover this week for an inspection or a closing, sod is the honest answer.

Do you fix the soil first?

If the ground needs topsoil or amendment, it'll be in the quote. Spraying good seed on bad ground wastes your money and puts our name on a thin, failing stand.
